It's Time for Change!

All my life, I have had a plan for the future and a backup plan in case plan A fails. When I opened my yoga studio in Westborough 7 years ago, I was afraid about going under, so I continued my full-time job as an Occupational Therapist and as a Rehab Director for 4 years. Those were really busy times for me since both my children were young and needed a lot of care. When I left my job about 3 years ago, that’s when I really started spending more time at the studio--- thinking, planning, organizing more workshops, classes, and Retreats. I was also able to take time for personal things that I always wanted to do like traveling, reading all the books that were piling on my nightstand, and finding my Spiritual Calling. The most life-altering journey that I was able to do was a trip to the High Himalayas in Tibet, visiting the Holiest of Mountains, Mount Kailash in 2018. In 2019, I trekked to the Everest Base Camp in Nepal.

At the beginning of 2020, I was excited as I had planned some exciting International Yoga Retreats. Right after I announced the Retreats, many of you signed up for the trip to Egypt in Dec and to India in March 2021 (I am hoping to re-schedule them at some time). All of it came to a screeching halt in March as a new reality started to sink in for all of us. We had to shut down the studio but the silver lining was that we could continue to teach online. Practicing, teaching, and sharing yoga has been the biggest gift in my life and the fact that I could keep going in spite of the pandemic was a blessing indeed. I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your support, your love, and your kindness. Your thoughtful words are more than I could have asked for.

For the first time in my life, I don’t have a plan. And I am okay with that. I have trust in the Universe and for what it has in store for me. All I need to do is to show up! I hope that you will join me on this path. I am one zoom link away. I look forward to sharing my love of yoga with you.

After years of being part of a beautiful team of many yoga instructors at SOHUM, I am it. I mean, I am that. As the circumstances shifted our goals and priorities with a global pandemic this year, sadly, I find myself as the only teacher under the SOHUM banner. I like the fact that this resonates with its meaning. I am currently teaching 7 classes every week via zoom. I send an email before each class about what we will practice. I try to have a theme or a focus for each class whether it's working on neck/ shoulders, hip openers, or core strengthening. We talk about mindfulness, chakras, the meaning of certain poses, or whatever Q. comes up. By the way, do you know, what Shav-asana means? Join me for a class and find out :-)

I always enjoy hearing from you. If you have any comments or suggestions for me, please email me at Ritu.Kapur@Sohum.org
